Kim Ann Foxman is seriously one of my favorite females out there doing big things in the world. For those of you who aren’t familiar with her, she made her debut in the band Hercules & Love Affair (DFA), is a world-renowned, globetrotting DJ, and currently now producing her own music with H&A’s Andy Butler. She also made jewelry awhile back, which was featured at Opening Ceremony!

I normally am not very gushy or starry eyed over very many contemporary celebrities or people, but I’m gonna go ahead and dork out over Ms. Foxman. I suppose it’s because I admire her style (obvz) and her tremendous musical talent/taste, but I was also lucky enough to DJ an opening set for her sometime last year and meet her…and she was such a nice, nice person. She was also born and raised in Hawaii, which is where I was born too!

Here’s the video to her latest single, “Creature,” that she wrote and produced with the aforementioned Andy Butler. It’s an awesome song, and you can check out some of her style. I especially like the voguers in the vid!

In any case, aside from her funky house goodness in terms of her music, her style to me is super edgy, which equals pure awesomeness. i-D magazine recently interviewed her, and she spilled her thoughts on style, fashion, tattoos and of course, music. Known for shopping at digs such as Opening Ceremony and OAK (2 of my favs), her style is eclectic, fresh, and pretty much will stop you in your tracks and wonder who this woman is. She mixes masculine elements like baseball hats, combat boots, and oversized shirts, but there is undoubtably something still very feminine in the way she pulls off her outfits.

To me, Kim is definitely one of those uber talented/stylish women who have that certain ineffable, je ne sais quois.  I’m very excited to see what she will come out with next!

As I have previously blogged about, I truly adore Stevie Nicks—for her talent, her style, and her spirit. So it’s no surprise when I say that I’m also a huge Fleetwood Mac fan! Their music has always captivated me from an early age; when I was introduced to them as a child until now. There is a timeless, ethereal transcendence in their music that always moves me.  The musical arrangement and textures of the instruments, combined with the soulful lyrics and vocals of Nicks’ voice really is otherworldly.

Dreams Edit by Soul Clap

Now it’s 2011 and Fleetwood Mac is STILL relevant—the Boston-based DJ/Producers, Soul Clap, have re-edited on of their more popular songs, “Dreams,” into a contemporary sonic wonderland.  It goes without saying that I really love this edit, not only because it’s a Fleetwood Mac song, but because I just generally love anything that Soul Clap is producing these days.

Soul Clap is currently on top of the game right now in terms of nu-disco/house/techno/dance music.  Their sound often utilizes older sounds or songs, while still creating new sounds and textures that sound fresh and relevant, and sometimes, ahead of its time.  They’ve recently been enlisted by the label K7, to collaborate on the next legendary DJ Kicks series, which is quite a tremendous honor in the DJ/music world.

So what is the point of all my rambling about music, when this is supposed to be a jewelry and fashion blog?  Well, it is no secret that music has inspired and been inspired by art—as Luke Strosnider said in his article,  ART: ‘Inspired by Music, ”It’s as if music and visual art have long been gracefully waltzing, always alternating who leads.”

In this particular case, we are referring to fashion, and jewelry in particular when we say the word, “art.”  My point is, is that in this day and age, we are so far past even post-modernity, that it seems as though time is almost folding back onto itself.  We are truly living in an age where everything has the potential to touch and influence each other—and does—with lightening quick speed.

When I first laid eyes on our Jennifer Elizabeth Chained Crystal Necklace, it immediately reminded me of something Stevie would wear now if she were to perform.  It’s a very magical piece, and is as breathtaking to me as Stevie herself was.  At the same time, the sparkle and elegance of the contours and lines, remind me of the elegance in the original musical arrangements that Soul Clap creates…creating form and some tangibility to something so ephemeral as beauty itself.
